For those of you that collect the comics - a question

Ok, I have gotten another one of my perverbial hairs up my ass and am giving serious thought to going back and collecting all the Spawn issues so I can actually read the story as it unfolds in the comic books.

In regard to the original series of Spawn, I know there are some collection books that are out there, and here is my quesiton:

Are these a collection of a series of the books in order? If I were to pick up one of these graphic novels, would that mean I wouldn't have to hunt down all the individual comics to have the story?

And if that is a yes: How many are there and to what issue did they get to before I would have to hunt the individual ones down?

and finally - do I have a better chance of getting the novels or just going for the individual comcis?

Yes, they are in order.

There are 12 books, and they go to somewhere in the 50s, not exactly sure.

There were a few different runs, and the latest run is still fairly easy to find. The only one I have yet to find is the first one, which has issues 1-5.

Oh, but issue 10 isn't in a TPB (some sort of liscences thing with the guest writer).

TPBs are as PH said, Vol. 1-12. Due to some contractual obligation you will need to get issue 10 as it is not included in the TPBs. Also, you'll want to get the book 'Angela's Hunt' which is the Angela mini-series. It's a nice tie in to issue 9 where we first meet Angela. The TPB also includes the "Cutthroat Spawn promo giveaway from issue 32. You'll need to start grabbing the single issues with i.55. unless by the time you get there, they start doing the Spawn TPBs again. [img]wink.gif[/img]

By the way, If tou really want to enjoy a book series , grab all the back issues 1-28 of 'Spawn the Dark Ages'. It was a great read too! I was very sorry to see it go. You can usually find them
at a reasonable price. Hell, I got the first 18 issues in Phoenix for 99 cents ea. then I just read it until they wrapped the series.

I haven't decided if I want to go the individual or TPB way yet. I'd like to think that I can afford the individuals as I like to think that the covers and such add to them, but money is going to be a factor if I get to do this at all.

I'll dig into the other lines once I get through the orignal line and catch up.

Had thought on STDA, HellSpawn, and S&T following them in that order.

Hadn't thought of the Angela series either - that is one I need to add!

I did come across someone that is selling issues 1-131 with most of the short seires for $250, with some open figures thrown in....
I am thinking on that one, especially since I now know what I am getting back from the IRS! [img]wink.gif[/img]
